What is Anxiety?

Before looking for anxiety treatments, it is best to understand what anxiety is. As mentioned before, it is normal to feel stressed out or under pressure. This is especially true if you have a challenging job with tight deadlines, unpaid bills, or an unexpected crisis in your life. When anxiety becomes pervasive or chronic, it may drastically affect your quality of life. Anxiety may make work and other daily tasks harder to deal with. It may also harm your relationships. It is important to note that no two people will experience the same symptoms of anxiety. However, here are some more commonly experienced symptoms of anxiety:

Panic attacks.

Rapid heart rate and lightheaded.

The inability to focus or concentrate.

A sense of danger or doom.

Persistent and extensive periods of worry and nervousness.

Anxiety includes many variations, classified as social anxiety, generalized anxiety, and other disorders. Anxiety may also coexist with other mood disorders, such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Anxiety Treatment Options That Offer Real Results

Anxiety and depression can be treated with conventional antidepressants. However, many patients are unsatisfied with the other side effects of antidepressant medication. Often, when one antidepressant does not offer effective results, another will be prescribed without yielding satisfactory results. This is the case for many patients seeking relief from anxiety and depression. Even nonpharmacologic therapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, may not offer effective results.

We offer ketamine treatments for anxiety that have been proven to provide long-lasting relief. Studies show that ketamine infusion therapy can successfully treat anxiety and depression, especially when conventional treatments have failed.

Why is Ketamine Different from Alternative Anxiety Treatments?

If you suffer from anxiety, ketamine therapy can help you. It has a calming effect that can boost your mood for up to two weeks after infusion. After your ketamine infusion therapy session, you will be able to deal with the stress and pressure in your life while maintaining a positive mood. Ketamine will also lower the intensity and frequency of your anxiety attacks.

How Does Ketamine Work?

You can experience the effects of ketamine treatments for anxiety almost immediately. This is because it stimulates activity in your brain that is associated with a neurotransmitter called glutamate. Glutamate is just one of many mood-regulating neurotransmitters. Ketamine therapy increases a protein called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). The main function of ketamine infusion is to block NMDA receptors in your brain. It also causes neurogenesis, the formation of new brain cells, and synaptogenesis, which is new connections between existing brain cells.

How Much Ketamine is Administered During a Treatment Session?

Doses differ from one person to the next. It depends on your mental status, baseline cardiovascular status, and physiological status. During your initial session, we administer a lower dose of ketamine. We can increase the dosage if it is necessary. The ketamine is administered at a slow rate over some time.

Ketamine Infusion Therapy Preparation

There are preparations that must be made before having your ketamine treatment. Here is a guide to help you:

Chronic medication should still be taken the night before and the morning of your treatment unless stated otherwise.

It is best to get a good night’s sleep before your treatment.

You should avoid alcohol and illicit substance consumption 24 hours before your Ketamine infusion therapy.

Be sure to wear comfortable clothing, including an eye mask and noise-canceling headphones, and bring calming music to your session.

The Ketamine Procedure

Before you start the process, you will need to empty your bladder. We will answer questions and address any concerns you may have about the procedure.

Thereafter, you will be taken to the infusion room and have your IV drip inserted into your hand or arm. You will then put your headphones and eye mask on.

When the infusion is complete, you will start to feel the effects wear off. After wearing an eye mask and listening to music, we will ask you to sit up slowly so your eyes and ears can adjust to your surroundings.

After Your Ketamine Treatment

In between your ketamine sessions, it is important to participate in relaxing hobbies. This will enhance the effects of the treatment. Meditation and regular exercise can also intensify the results of ketamine infusion therapy.
